A Decisive Judicial Verdict Is Coming in May – Sri Lanka President AKD

President Anura Kumara Dissanayake stated yesterday (1 May) that a decisive verdict is expected in May, declaring that 2026 will go down in Sri Lanka’s history as the year when the corrupt, crooks, and thieves were sentenced to prison.

He made these remarks while addressing the National People’s Power May Day rally held in Nuwara Eliya.

“I will give you a guarantee. This year, 2026, will be remembered in Sri Lanka’s history as the year when the corrupt, the crooks, and the thieves were sent to prison. There are ten cases before the courts this May alone. Yesterday, a date was fixed for a verdict. That verdict will be delivered in May,” the President emphasised.

Commenting further on the law and judicial process, President Dissanayake said:

“The Criminal Investigation Department has been strengthened, and a large number of investigations have been launched. The people are not worried. Those individuals are worried.

The Bribery Commission has also been strengthened. They said the Commission did not have enough space, so we provided the official residence used by a former minister for its use. Investigations are now underway.

We have strengthened institutions and enacted new laws. The people are not worried. Those individuals are worried.

Official residences used by  former ministers have been converted into court premises to hear cases. Now they return to the very houses where they once ate and drank, this time to give evidence. Courts have been built and reinforced. The people are not worried. Those individuals are worried.

I repeat my guarantee: 2026 will be the year in Sri Lanka’s history when the corrupt, fraudsters, and thieves are sentenced to prison. There are ten cases before the courts this May. A date for the verdict was fixed yesterday, and the verdict will be delivered in May.

What is happening now? Criminals, fraudsters, corrupt individuals, drug dealers, and underworld figures are rapidly being sent to jail. Cases are being heard, and they are becoming anxious. It would be surprising if they were not worried.

The law has reached their doorstep. You gave us a mandate to bring all these criminals to justice, and we are acting in accordance with our mandate.
