A few Sinhala students recently admitted to Jaffna University chose the Mu’l’livaaykkaal Day to erect a decorated pandal at Thirunelveali Junction to ‘celebrate’ the birth of Buddha and to distribute eatables to passers by, while the Eezham Tamils subjugated to the extent of not being able to even openly observe the remembrance of their dead were silently mourning on Wednesday.
While activities of Colombo in the occupied country of Eezham Tamils clearly show ‘reconciliation’ means subjugation and genocide, the US State Department that coined the paradigm ‘post-war reconciliation’ instead of post-war justice, and the supporting institutions of the West, are either once again outwitted by Sinhala diplomacy, or they wanted things to happen in this way, commented students of the Jaffna university.
32 Sinhala students were recently admitted to the University of Jaffna. They have formed a Sinhala-Buddhist association. The act of the association on the Mu’l’lvaaykkaal Day, backed by the occupying Army in Jaffna, has evoked serious anger in the university community and among the people of the locality.
This will reflect in the Tamil-Sinhala student relationship, student activists in the island said. The Sinhala Army enacted similar situations and made use of them to station a ‘security post’ inside the Batticaloa University campus and to intimidate the Tamil students, they pointed out.
When the small number of Sinhala students wanted to observe the 2600 years of the birth of Buddha, the general student community of the Jaffna University accepted it considering the religious significance of the occasion, and a religious observation was held in the campus on Tuesday night. But the following day the Sinhala students, with the backing of the occupying Army, played the mischief when the nation of Eezham Tamils were mourning, university circles said.
Every single act in the name of ‘reconciliation’ by the state of Sri Lanka and its occupying Army is meticulously designed to make it ultimate subjugation and structural genocide of the nation of Eezham Tamils, the university circles further said.
