Bribery Commission operational again

May 20, 2011
The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) has recommenced investigations into complaints on alleged acts of bribery and corruption, a press release issued by Information Department said yesterday.

Complaints can now be forwarded in writing or in person to the Commission.

The Commission had been defunct since March 29, 2010 due to new appointments not being made after the Commission’s term had come to an end.

However, it had recommenced operations on May 16 as a result of the new appointments on the recommendations of the Constitutional Council.

Former Supreme Court Judge D.J.D.S. Balapatabendi had been appointed as the new Chairman of the Bribery Commission while former IGP Jayantha Wickramaratne was appointed its Commissioner and former Court of Appeal Judge, L.K. Wimalachandra a member.
