Court summons investigators in Sudarman Radaliyagoda case

Courts have summoned the investigating officers in the scrap iron case against ITN journalist Sudarman Radaliyagoda. Colombo additional magistrate Tikiri Jayatilake today (Oct. 03) ordered all officers, past and present, who had probed the charge against Radaliyagoda to be present on October 17.

The court was told that the investigation was first handled by Colombo Fraud Detection Bureau’s inspector Dhammika Gamage, and now by chief inspector Senaratne of Peliyagoda Special Investigation Unit.

Peliyagoda police informed the magistrate that the advice of the attorney general has been sought over the case.

The lawyer for two other suspects in the case, who are scrap iron dealers, said there are no legal provisions to act against police for failing to conduct a proper inquiry and for disregarding their duties.

Police have so far failed to execute an order by Colombo Fort magistrate Lanka Jayaratne to arrest Radaliyagoda.

He stands accused of having sold a fake document, in which he had forged the signature of the Sri Lanka Telecom’s chief storekeeper, for Rs. 1.5 million to the two scrap iron dealers to obtain 1,828 tons of scrap iron from SLT.
