Muslim organizations in Sri Lanka have issued a joint statement on the 6th anniversary of the 2019 Easter Sunday attacks, strongly condemning the violence and offering condolences to the victims.
The statement affirms that those who carried out the attacks do not represent Islam or the Muslim community, and highlights that the community rejected the perpetrators from the outset, even denying them Islamic funeral rites.
It also criticizes the lack of justice six years on, urging the government to identify and prosecute the true masterminds behind the attacks.
The organizations also expressed concern over the prolonged detention of Muslims under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA), often without charge.
Calling for broader justice and institutional reform, the statement emphasized unity, peace, and accountability, while thanking Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith and others who advocated against collective blame.
