A conditional restraining order has been issued to former Provincial Councilor and Frontline Socialist Party Central Committee member Indrananda de Silva, preventing him from making statements on retired Major General Ashoka Thoradeniya regarding the killing of JVP leader Rohana Wijeweera to the electronic and print media, and posting them on social media.

The order was made under the Online Security Act , which has been contested by democratic forces in Sri Lanka.

Recently Indrananda de Silva made a number of YouTube statements saying that Major General Ashoka Thoradeniya was present or took part in killing Rohana Wijeweera, who was arrested by a Military team led by late General Janaka Perera.

The order, which prohibits making and publishing “false and hateful statements”  that are misleading the public regarding retired Major General Ashoka Thoradeniya was issued by Colombo Additional Magistrate Manjula Ratnayake today (16).

After considering a complaint filed by retired Major General Ashoka Thoradeniya under Section 24 of the Online Security Act No. 9 of 2024, against former North Central Provincial Council member Indrananda de Silva, the injunction was ordered to remain in effect until the 30th of next month.

Former Attorney General and President’s Counsel Sanjay Rajaratnam and Attorney Sudath Jayasundara presented evidence before the court on behalf of the complaint.

This decision was made under Section 24 of the Online Safety Act No. 9 of 2024, following a complaint by Major General Thoradeniya.

The current government, which promised before the election to repeal the Online Safety Act, has not yet taken any steps to do so.
