Colombo Additional Magistrate Nishantha Peiris refused to issue an interim order banning the screening of the film ‘Adaraneeya Kathawak’, today.
The National Authority on Tobacco and Alcohol (NATA) had complained that the film, containing scenes depicting tobacco and alcohol consumption, violates provisions of the National Authority on Tobacco and Alcohol Act.
The Colombo Additional Magistrate Nishantha Peiris however refused to issue an interim order, saying there were no legal provisions under which he could issue the order.
He had also said that the scenes depicting tobacco and alcohol consumption should not be viewed as a ‘isolated incident’, but that the film should be viewed as a whole.
