President Maithripala Sirisena has accused a section of electronic media of violating the terms of their licences.
President stressed that it would be the responsibility of all electronic media institutions to provide correct information to the public.
The President was addressing the top management of the Telecommunication Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka (TRCSL) as well as heads of state and private sector electronic media organisations at the Presidential Secretariat on Tuesday (19).
President Sirisena declared his intention to amend existing laws to strengthen the regulatory mechanism.
Commenting on media freedom, President Maithripala Sirisena said that there were problems with regard to the conduct of print and electronic media. Expressing concern over the situation, the President stressed that it would be the responsibility of media to be ethical.
The President revealed that as he had received information with regard to corruption at the TRCSL, action would be taken to eliminate it.
