Bodu Bala Sena Organisation General Secretary Ven. Galagoda Aththe Gnanasara Thera who came to the Colombo National Hospital yesterday morning, tied a pirith noola on the wrist of underworld gangster Dematagoda Chaminda, an accused in the Bharatha Lakshman Premachandra murder. Ven. Gnanasara Thera was among the 11 bhikkhus who visited Dematagoda Chaminda at the Colombo National Hospital. Chaminda sustained injuries when he was shot at while being taken to the Welikada prisons in a prison bus.
Ven. Gnanasara Thera had protested when prison officials providing security to Chaminda did not allow the monks to visit the suspect.
They had said that only three persons were allowed to meet the suspect a day.
The thera tied the pirith noola on Chaminda’s wrist and blessed him by chanting pirith.
When prison officials opposed the move, the thera had said that the Buddha showed his patience to Angulimala and King Kosala.
Security for Chaminda has been strengthened. A group of officials representing Prisons and Police Departments are providing security to the suspect.
