Sri Lanka: 35 Departments and Institutions under purview of Defense Minister Rajapaksa

President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has retained the Defence Ministry under his purview, reports Ministry of Defence web site.

President’s elder brother Chamal Rajapaksa was sworn-in as the State Minister of Internal Security, Home Affairs and Disaster Management.

In addition to his State ministerial portfolios, he is the Cabinet Minister of Irrigation.

Thirty five State institutions have been brought under the purview of the Defence Ministry and Homeland Security, Internal Affairs and Disaster Management State Ministry by the new Gazette Notification issued this week.

The institutions under the purview of the Defence Ministry are :

  •     Office of the Chief of Defence Staff
  •     Sri Lanka Army
  •     Sri Lanka Navy
  •     Sri Lanka Air Force
  •     Rakna Security Lanka Limited
  •     National Authority for the Implementation of Chemical Weapons Convention
  •     Department of Civil Defence
  •     State Intelligence Service
  •     Department of Coast Guard, Sri Lanka
  •     National Dangerous Drugs Control Board
  •     General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University
  •     Defence Services Command and Staff College
  •     School of Defence Services
  •     National Cadet Corps
  •     National Security Fund
  •     Defence Research and Development Center
  •     Institute of National Defence Studies of Sri Lanka
  •     National Institute of Defence, Sri Lanka
  •     Ranaviru Seva Authority
  •     ‘Api Venuwen Api’ Fund
  •     Department of Multipurpose Development Task Force
  •     Department of Archeology
  •     Academy of Financial Studies

The institutions that were brought under the purview of the Homeland Security, Internal Affairs and Disaster Management State Ministry are :

  •     All District Secretariats and Divisional Secretariats
  •     Sri Lanka Police
  •     National Police Training Institute
  •     Department of the Registrar General
  •     Department of Registration of Persons
  •     Department of Immigration and Emigration
  •     Secretariat for NGOs
  •     National Council for Disaster Management
  •     Disaster Management Center
  •     National Disaster Relief Services Center
  •     Department of Meteorology
  •     National Building Research Organisation.
