Northern Provincial Council Chief Minister C.V. Wigneswaran took part an event at Mullivaikkal this morning, to remember those who died during the Eelam War.

Others who took part in the event at Mullivaikkal NPC Member Ananthi Sasitharan and TELO leader Selvam Adaikkalanathan, reports said.

Meanwhile, several other events were held across north and east to remember the fallen during the war. Events were held in University of Jaffna and Vakarai.

The events took place following the banning order on a “Tamil Genocide Remembrance” event to be held by Tamil National People’s Front led by Gajendrakumar Ponnambalam. NPC decided to hold remembrance events despite ban on pro-LTTE events.

Today marks six years after the end of the war in 2009. The official “Remembrance Day” event will be held tomorrow at Matara.
