Fulfilling her wish to come back to her political home, President Maithripala Sirisena has appointed Former president Chandrika Kumaratunga as the chair of the policy and planning committee of the SLFP that will fully reorganize the party. This will strengthen President Sirisena’s hold on the SLFP and completely block Mahinda Rajapaksa capturing the power through the SLFP.
This position will empower her to reorganise the Sri Lanka Freedom Party on democratic lines and with a real Sri Lankan identity which encompass ethnic and religious diversity in the country, a close aid to CBK told SLB.
MP Vidura Wickremanayake has been appointed as the secretary of this committee.
SLFP administrative secretary S.H. Ariyasena has told media that ‘the party was in serious crisis in the past due to the following of personal agendas, and said that would be halted through its reorganizing.’
According to him, this committee will also be responsible for deciding how to cooperate with other parties at future elections and to attract minority communities who had distanced themselves from the party, reported Sri Lanka Guardian.
