[Militarisation of the North still remains]]
The regulations imposed by the Ministry of Defence (MOD) on foreign Passport holders traveling to the North have been lifted.
The MOD said that the decision was taken at the first Security Council meeting of President Maithripala Sirisena today.
According to the MOD it was felt that since there is a peaceful environment in Sri Lanka such regulations will not be required anymore.
The National Security Council also decided to lift restrictions on items transported to the North and East, other than weapons, explosive substances, clothing similar to that worn by the security forces and telescopes. (Colombo Gazette)
