Sri Lanka miliitary says that it needs to have a track of all foreigners, who go to North , for security reasons.
Military spokesman Brigadier Ruwan Wanigasuriya has told Ceylon Today that ” the MoD clearance was re-introduced and they do not have a specific reason but it was ‘based on careful study’
The Brigadier, had further said that the approval is ‘indefinite’ and implemented strictly.
“The MoD approval was adopted, based on the present matters that are considered detrimental to national security and we cannot disclose the reasons to the media.” he has said.
“We need to have a track of all foreigners, who go there, for security reasons,” he has added.
When asked why such details as ‘fax copy of the request to MoD needs to be followed by a hard copy – Purpose of visit, Date of travel/duration of visit, destination and specific places of visit, names, nationality, passport numbers and designation of international staff member/s, names, NIC numbers and designation of Sri Lankan staff members, name and NIC number of the driver, vehicle registration number, place of overnight stay (optional)’, the Brigadier said, ” I cannot reveal and it’s not for public knowledge when it comes to national security.”
