‘Nothing to hide, or to cover up’

The government says it is ready to favourably consider a request for a visit by the UNHRC, since Sri Lanka has nothing to hide or to cover up.

Foreign secretary Karunatilake Amunugama has told state-run ‘Dinamina’ that UN human rights chief Navi Pillai was expected to send a representative to the island.

However, that representative’s agenda while in the country will be prepared by the government following a discussion, he said.

Mr. Amunugama added that there would be no change in the government stance despite such a visit.

He went onto say that the government had been able to convince about the favourable atmosphere in Sri Lanka to several foreign representatives who had visited the island.

The foreign secretary rejected claims that the government was having problems with the UN.
