Chairman of COPE and Minister D.E.W Gunasekara who was asked as to what action the government will take against the persons and institutions that have misappropriated public funds, remained tight-lipped.
When questioned whether the government will take any action against the perpetrators or disregard the violations, he said he ‘does not know.’
Former chairman of COPE and UNP MP Wijedasa Rajapakshe said that it’s a very weak and ambiguous report and that it has failed to name the persons responsible for the massive financial irregularities.
“When I was the chairman of COPE we named the persons responsible for the financial irregularities and got the CID and the Bribery Commission to investigate.”
He challenged the government to appoint the Commission to Investigate into Allegations of Bribery or Corruption as well as the CID, to investigate these massive financial scandals if the government is keen on taking action against corruption.
