The JVP would present five proposals to the government for it to take an optimistic step to establish democracy in the country says the Member of the Political Bureau of the JVP, Parliamentarian Anura Dissanayake.

Withdrawing of emergency regulations, revoking ‘Prevention of terrorism Act’, releasing Gen. Sarath Fonseka, releasing Tamil political prisoners and establishing media freedom are the five proposals of the JVP.

Mr. Dissanayake said the JVP would take the leadership to form a broad mass organization to establish democracy and good governance if the party does not get a satisfactory response to the proposals they have put forward. He said this at a press briefing held in Colombo today (22nd).

The oppressive laws, regulations and acts maintained by the present government for its existence are used by various parties to interfere in the affairs of the country pointed out Mr. Dissanayake. Hence, such oppressive laws, regulations and acts should be immediately revoked to establish democracy in the country and prevent imperialist interventions in the country added Mr. Dissanayake.
